BCS works in neighborhoods impacted by systemic poverty. We believe all Brooklynites should have the resources, education, opportunities, and safety they need to thrive.
With over 50 award-winning programs and 28 locations across Brooklyn, BCS serves over 20,000 individuals in need annually. We empower Brooklyn residents to maximize their potential, serving low income Brooklynites of all ages: from early childhood to adults in their senior years. We strengthen communities by fostering the educational success of children, the leadership development of youth, the employment and housing stability of adults, the advancement of individuals living with disabilities, and the empowerment of seniors and families.
Spring into Action has officially begun! 🌷 🌱 🐣 Yesterday, students from NYU Tandon stopped by the Farragut Cornerstone program to read to our students. We`re all smiles on this #ThrowbackThursday. Enjoy this snapshot from a former BCS program, the Waverly Child Care Center! Located in Fort Greene, this program offered kids a supportive and safe environment to learn and play right in their backyard!#wearebcs #tbt #throwback #fortgreene #fortgreenebrooklyn #brooklyn #nyc #historicbrooklyn #historicnyc #newyork

Here at BCS, we are partial to Brooklyn. Yet, we will admit that Manhattan has some cool things to offer…😉 This week, BCS PROS took a field trip to @littleislandnyc in @hudsonriverpark! The crew enjoyed a day in the sun and got to experience one of the City’s most unique parks. As the weather gets warmer, BCS programs are excited for more adventures in Brooklyn and beyond!#WeAreBCS #LittleIslandNYC #HudsonRiverPark #HudsonRiver #Nonprofit #Brooklyn #NYC #canarsiebrooklyn

Meet Amani, Marquieta, and Esther! Amani is a staff member and Marquieta and Esther are participants in BCS` Day Habilitation (Day Hab) program. This is a day service where adults with developmental disabilities learn life skills in a community of their peers.“We do trainings and go out into the community to volunteer sites,” explains Marquieta. “We learn how to go for job interviews and how to dress for a job. We learn about kitchen safety. We learn vocational skills.” Amani works side by side with participants like Marquieta and Esther. “I make sure they develop job skills for the worksites that we go to.” Amani explains that the group travels to a school twice a week to clean the space for the students. He adds that developing these kinds of skills are not only crucial for gaining employment, but also for nurturing their independence. Esther notes that her favorite part of the program is “going to the worksites” because she likes to “learn new things.”Amani says it best: “This program is just great for the community. It gives working parents a break and it also gives their son or daughter time to learn something new.”Thank you Amani, Marquieta, and Esther for telling us about your amazing program!
