Whatever brings you through the door — learning a new skill, getting homework help, playing basketball, making art or music, exploring careers, focusing on wellness, meeting new people, or simply having a safe place to belong — O’Dwyer is here for you.

This week, we’re highlighting our community programs! 💡

Meet the NY Food for Families program! Food for Families brings fresh produce from NYC farmers straight to Brooklyn residents through nine monthly food distribution events at BCS program sites across the borough — free of charge, no questions asked. This spring, we hit a huge milestone: passing out our 10,000th bag of food! This summer, we’ve increased the number of bags at two locations and added two new distributions to our monthly lineup.

At a time when food costs feel overwhelming, and access to quality food in Brooklyn can seem out of reach, Food for Families is on a mission to make things just a bit easier.

Meet Laci Chisholm, Founder & Executive Director of Fit4Dance, a Brooklyn dance and wellness studio, and a member of the BCS board. 💫

For 12 years, Laci has built Fit4Dance into a multigenerational community hub. Now, thanks to the Community Energy Project (a partnership with CitizensNYC and National Grid), Fit4Dance is expanding to help neighbors access resources on energy affordability and efficiency too.

Her advice to anyone waiting for the "right time" to start a business? "Start before everything feels perfect, because it probably never will."

What makes Farragut unique is the generational impact — former residents who grew up in the program now lead and mentor today’s youth, supported by the countless community partners who help keep participants engaged and resourced, both within the center and at home.
